Our wedding at the
Lumen House
This one was a late-November wedding, the week before Thanksgiving, when the fields around the Lumen House had gone gold and the woods were nearly bare. The couple wanted it to feel modern but warm and a little moody, so we built the whole palette around wine: oxblood and true-red roses, antique hydrangea that had turned burgundy and green, and plenty of ivory so the color had somewhere to rest against all that white architecture.
For the ceremony we used bronze urns on white plinths of two heights, which echo the clean lines of the building instead of competing with them. Each urn held a big, asymmetric arrangement of red roses, white calla lilies, burgundy ranunculus, and hydrangea, with hanging amaranthus dripping over the rim, and a smaller cluster sat on the lower plinth and at the base. The bride carried a matching bouquet that let long strands of red and green amaranthus swing below her hands, tied with ivory ribbon that caught the wind in every walking shot.
Inside the Reception Hall, ivory satin linens, burgundy napkins, and the venue's oak bentwood chairs set the stage. We mixed low, fruit-strewn centerpieces on the round tables — pomegranates, red apples, and grapes tucked among roses, dahlias, and hydrangea — with taller urn arrangements and silver candelabras of ivory tapers down the long family-style table by the window wall. As the light outside faded, the whole room glowed.
The florals
- Bridal bouquet of red roses, white calla lilies, and ranunculus with trailing red and green amaranthus
- Ceremony arrangements in bronze urns on white plinths, with hanging amaranthus
- Smaller plinth and ground arrangements to layer the ceremony backdrop
- Antique burgundy-and-green hydrangea as the backbone of every piece
- Low centerpieces scattered with pomegranates, apples, and grapes
- Tall urn arrangements down the long family-style table
- Silver candelabras with ivory tapers for evening glow
- Ivory rose boutonniere for the groom

The Lumen House sits on a working ranch in Cleveland, North Carolina, out in the farm country between Statesville and Salisbury — roughly an hour north of Uptown Charlotte. It opened recently, and it doesn't look like anything else around Charlotte: two gabled, barn-shaped buildings, one white stucco and one black brick, joined by a covered veranda and designed by the Arizona studio The Ranch Mine. Around it are open fields, a tree line, and, if you're lucky, a few shaggy Highland cattle in the distance.
For a florist, the building is close to a blank page. Walls are white, floors are polished concrete, furniture is pale oak, and enormous windows pull in daylight from every side. That means color reads beautifully here — deep reds, jewel tones, or a single bold hue all look intentional against white — while an all-white design will lean on texture and greenery to keep from disappearing. The arches inside the Reception Hall and the arch in the courtyard frame arrangements almost like picture frames, so we design with those shapes in mind.
It's also built for a whole weekend in one place. You get the house exclusively for the day, there are dressing rooms on site, and the venue's cabins and a pool house let your family and wedding party sleep a short walk from the ceremony. Most other guests stay in Mooresville or Statesville, twenty to thirty minutes away.
Ceremony & reception spaces
Reception Hall
Indoor · up to ~175 guests
Where our couple held dinner. The curved back wall, arched niches, and full-height glass mean centerpieces are seen from every angle, so we shape them to look good all the way around. Over forty rigging points make hanging installations possible if you want flowers overhead.
Grand Courtyard
Outdoor · ceremony
The main outdoor ceremony spot, with a built-in arch, an outdoor fireplace, and mature oaks. The arch already frames you, so we'd dress it asymmetrically or flank it with urns on plinths, as we did for our November couple, rather than hide its lines.
Greenhouse
Indoor glasshouse · 50 seated, ~175 cocktail
A glass room with chandeliers and its own bar — great for cocktail hour or a rehearsal dinner. Flowers here should be lush and green, almost like part of the greenhouse itself, and they need water sources because the room gets plenty of sun.
Veranda
Covered outdoor · dinners & rain plan
The covered walkway that ties the two buildings together, and the usual fallback if it rains. Long-table dinners out here look wonderful with low garlands down the middle and lanterns or candles in glass.
Miniature Courtyard
Open-air · first looks & portraits
A small, sheltered courtyard in the middle of the house. It's where couples usually do a first look, and a single urn arrangement or a pair of ground pieces makes it feel finished in photos.
Gardens
Outdoor · portraits
Landscaped beds and open fields around the buildings. They're used for portraits rather than events — bring your bouquet out here at golden hour, when the grasses glow behind it.
What's Included
Wedding services at
Lumen House
Run by the family that built it, the Lumen House hosts one event per day. It provides the space, furniture, staff, and bar; you bring in the planner and caterer from its approved lists, and choose the rest of your team — including your florist — freely.
The whole house, all day
Your rental covers exclusive use of the main buildings from 10 AM to 11 PM. That window includes vendor setup and breakdown, so we plan our install times with the venue manager early.
Tables & bentwood chairs included
Your rental includes simple modern tables plus 300 oak bentwood chairs, and the venue's staff handles the setup. That pale, natural wood pairs with nearly any floral palette.
Approved caterers
Food must come from the venue's approved caterer list, which ranges from full-service companies to pizza and barbecue trucks. A catering kitchen is on site.
In-house bar
North Carolina's ABC rules mean the venue runs the bar itself, with beer-and-wine, classic, and premium packages. The Greenhouse has a built-in bar we love to decorate.
Planner required
Couples hire a planner or coordinator from the venue's approved list. Our featured wedding was planned by Jen Williams, and we work hand in hand with whichever planner you choose.
Dressing rooms
Two soundproof getting-ready suites with full-length mirrors and good natural light are included with full weddings. We deliver bouquets and boutonnieres there in time for detail photos.
Stays on the property
Two cabins sleep up to ten each, and a separate three-bedroom house with a pool sleeps six on full-weekend bookings. It's an easy way to keep the wedding party together.
Bring your own florist
Outside florists are welcome as long as they carry business liability insurance. Zooms & Blooms isn't on the venue's preferred list, but we've designed a wedding here and are happy to provide our certificate of insurance.

For You & Your Guests
Things to do at the
Lumen House
The Lumen House is out in the country, and that's part of the appeal. Here's how to make the most of the property with your guests.
Golden-hour field portraits
The fields around the house are the best backdrop on the property, especially in fall when the grasses turn gold. Plan 20–30 minutes for portraits around sunset — early in winter, so check the time.
Greenhouse happy hour
The glass room with the built-in bar makes a fantastic rehearsal-night or welcome gathering. A few low arrangements and candles turn it into a party in minutes.
Fireside in the courtyard
The outdoor fireplace is a natural gathering spot on cool evenings. Ask the venue manager about lighting it for cocktail hour in spring, fall, and winter.
Hot tubs and the pool
If your wedding party stays in the cabins or the Grove house, the hot tubs and pool make the morning after feel like a mini vacation.
Spotting the Highland cattle
The ranch's shaggy Highland cattle graze in the distance. Guests love them, and photographers love them even more.

Planning Notes
Season by season,
under glass
Spring
Garden roses · ranunculus · sweet pea
The fields green up in April and May, and the Greenhouse is at its prettiest. Soft pastels or bright, garden-y mixes both work against the white walls.
Summer
Dahlias · lisianthus · cosmos
Hot, humid afternoons with pop-up storms. The buildings are climate-controlled, but outdoor pieces go up as late as possible, and we lean on blooms that handle the heat.
Fall
Antique hydrangea · amaranthus · dahlias
Our featured wedding's season. The fields turn gold, the light gets warm, and deep palettes like burgundy and rust look rich against all that white.
Winter
Amaryllis · anemones · evergreens
Short days and early sunsets, so the window walls go dark early. Candlelight, fuller centerpieces, and a fire in the courtyard carry the evening.
Designing for the Lumen House
Commit to color — or to texture
White walls and pale oak make color pop. A confident palette like our burgundy and ivory reads beautifully here. If you want all-white flowers, we add plenty of greenery and varied textures so they don't disappear against the walls.
Design in silhouette
The window walls put many arrangements in front of bright glass during the day. Airy shapes, trailing amaranthus, and tall branches make strong silhouettes against the light, while dense, round shapes can look flat.
Plan the flip and the window
Vendor setup and breakdown both happen inside the venue's 10 AM–11 PM day. Indoor ceremonies need roughly a 90-minute flip before dinner, so we design ceremony urns that can move to the reception and confirm load-in times with the venue manager ahead of time.
Built for the drive north
From our Fort Mill studio it's about an hour and a quarter up I-77, so we pack every arrangement in water, bring backup stems and a repair kit, and arrive with time to adjust anything after the drive.
